Lab Supervisor (SLP)

GENERAL SUMMARY

Lab Supervisors have various responsibilities such as organizing/maintaining equipment, preparing the lab environment, monitoring student progress and facilitating student participation in learning activities.  The lab supervisor communicates with the lead instructor regarding student performance or issues that arise and ensures the delivery of consistent content and testing.  They may assist with grading practicals and other required assignments. 


The qualified candidate must be an ASHA certified and state licensed speech-language pathologist with at least 2 years post Clinical Fellow experience. Minimum two hours documented supervision training (general, CF or student) is required. The successful candidate will have excellent oral communication and organizational skills, be responsive to adult student needs, and be able to work collaboratively in a team environment. Prior supervision experience is preferred.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • May assist with scheduling students and lab experiences with lead instructor
  • Leads students in preparing assessment and treatment rooms for lab activities
  • Facilitates student participation in assessment and therapy learning activities
  • Assists lead instructor with lab components of residency weekend
  • Monitors student progress in assessment and treatment activities; gives verbal and/or written
    feedback on sessions
  • Assists with administration, scoring, written reporting of assessments and therapy sessions
  • Assesses student performance on assessment and treatment activities
  • Communicates with lead instructor regarding student difficulties or issues that arise and to
    ensure consistent content and testing; recommends changes for upcoming term
  • Communicates with students and families on assessment and treatment activities
  • May lead and/or debrief student participation in clinical simulation activities
  • Upholds student and employee and faculty handbook policies
  • Promotes professionalism by modeling such behaviors inside and outside the classroom setting
  • Self –evaluates teaching/supervision performance; sets goals for improvement
  • Participates/reports on student performance in lab activities to lead instructor
  • Communicates with lead instructor to ensure consistent and innovative processes and activities
    for the residency weekend
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May perform other duties and responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years post Clinical Fellow experience. Minimum wo hours documented supervision training (general, CF or student) is required.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment but may involve exposure to moderate noise levels. Work involves operation of personal computer equipment for six to eight hours daily and includes physical demands associated with a traditional office setting, e.g., walking, standing, communicating, and other physical functions as necessary.
