GENERAL SUMMARY

The Manager, Simulation Operations is responsible for providing centralized coordination and operations leadership for the USAHS Centers for Innovative Clinical Practice (CICPs). The Manager provides oversight, direction, and supervision of clinical simulation staff across all campuses to ensure excellence and smooth delivery of clinical simulation experiences. The qualified individual provides oversight for all center activities including scheduling, equipment maintenance, reporting, inventory/purchasing, and faculty and student communications. The Senior Manager also serves as a technical lead who sets up, operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and in some cases, repairs simulation equipment and technology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

CICP Oversight and Leadership

  • Oversees the management of the CICPs, including oversight of operations, development of and adherence to policies and procedures, supervision of staff, and faculty and learner support.
  • Manages simulation staff and team activities daily, including human resources and financial accountabilities.
  • Conducts performance reviews and works with staff to ensure professional development and advancement to deliver excellence in clinical simulation experiences.
  • Ensures that all campus CICP operational functions, such as inventory management, equipment maintenance, event scheduling, and service to faculty and students are centrally coordinated and effectively managed.
  • Provides oversight for standardized simulation events, and assists in the coordination, data collection, and assessment for simulations.
  • Ensures standardization of policies, procedures, and CICP facilities across campuses and delivery modalities.
  • Creates multi-campus troubleshooting and support documents, simulator checklists, and preventative maintenance plans for simulation equipment.
  • Collaborates with others to develop, deliver, and continuously improve the training opportunities and instructional materials available to faculty, CICP staff, students, and standardized patients.
  • Collaborates with CICP staff and educational stakeholders to recruit, train, and assess standardized patients and embedded participants.

CICP Operations and Technology

  • Operates and maintains simulation equipment, task trainers, computerized simulators, and virtual reality procedural trainers with the ability to follow scenarios and make appropriate adjustments to technology systems.
  • Provides training and support for simulation equipment and center technologies.
  • Operates and maintains simulation-related audio-video recording systems.
  • May be involved with the educational aspects of scenarios including debriefing/feedback, including directly interfacing with students.
  • Leads and coordinates open labs, center tours, and other ad-hoc events.
  • Oversees, analyzes data, and makes recommendations related to center scheduling, utilization, and space planning.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time.

POSITION IN ORGANIZATION

Reports to:Senior Director of Simulation Education and CICP Operations

Positions Supervised: Clinical Simulation Specialists, Simulation Technicians, Student Workers, Contractors

TECHNICAL, MANAGERIAL & PEOPLE SKILLS REQUIRED

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in education, health professions or related field from an accredited college or university with experience in simulation and simulation technology preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role in a simulation environment.
  • 3-5 years of experience with utilizing simulation in online, hybrid, and blended environments.
  • Experience as faculty or working with faculty as a peer in health sciences education strongly preferred.
  • Experience with managing and leading a diverse team across multiple locations to achieve a shared vision of simulation implementation.
  • Must have an understanding of the crucial role of simulation education as an integral part of health science education.
  • Knowledge of current issues and best practices for simulation in general and in higher education.
  • Significant knowledge of and experience with current simulation technology, best practices, and simulation management software.
  • Experience in supporting simulation experiences for students in online, blended, and hybrid programs in higher education.
  • Experience in the administration of simulation experiences and the support of faculty teaching utilizing this teaching methodology in higher education.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills in handling, directing, and prioritizing multiple and complex assignments/ projects and maintaining records.
  • Demonstrated effective supervisory, interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to work independently with little direction.

LICENSURE and/or CERTIFICATION

Certification from the NLN SIRC, Society for Simulation in Healthcare or the Certified Modeling & Simulation Professional program preferred, but not mandatory.

TRAVEL

Position requires 30% travel to vendor sites and USAHS campuses

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment but may involve exposure to moderate noise levels. Work involves operation of personal computer equipment for six to eight hours daily and includes physical demands associated with a traditional office setting, e.g., walking, standing, communicating, and other physical functions as necessary.
