Position Description
The mission of the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences is the development of professional health care practitioners through innovation, individualized, and quality classroom, clinical, and distance education.
GENERAL SUMMARY
This position manages all aspects the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences’ Safety and Security program. Establishing and maintaining programs and processes that provide for a visible, positive, safe and secure presence throughout the campuses. The position also oversees day-to-day activities related to emergency planning, crisis management, safety and risk management of buildings and grounds owned or operated by the USAHS.
The position can be based on any campus, but remains responsible for oversight of safety and security functions at all five USAHS campuses.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide safety practices that uphold a safe, secure environment for students, employees, and other visitors by:
- Establishing and managing programs that instruct and encourage students and employees in a variety of prudent and preventive safe and secure practices.
- Directing the management of access control procedures and parking.
- Participating with the USAHS Safety and Security Committee and Campus Response Teams.
- Supporting internal investigations related to safety and security.
- Providing oversight of the campus safety programs and risk management.
- Overseeing and managing all disaster and emergency planning management activities including safety drills.
- Coordinating with facilities personnel on campus entry protocols including oversight of security and other safety consultants
- Maintaining and ensuring the Informacast mass notification system is functional and reaching the largest audience possible.
Ensure compliance and the required interaction with state/local law enforcement entities and with various campus entities by:
- Maintaining familiarity with city and county ordinances applicable to each USAHS campus location.
- Planning and coordinating emergency response policies and procedures with first responders at each campus location.
- Assisting in disaster and other campus emergency response and recovery efforts.
- Supporting preparation of annual safety and security report submission
- Participate in threat assessment for Title IX and other safety and security scenarios
Provide program management by:
- Maintaining knowledge of applicable laws, training standards, and educational institutions best safety practices.
- Establishing standards and implementation practices for the ongoing training of USAHS stakeholders.
- Managing, creating and/or facilitating safety training for USAHS stakeholders.
- Establishing standard operating procedures for various safety and security programs.
- Follow up on site inspection reports
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees physical safety and security of the USAHS’s facilities/property and people – students, faculty, employees, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
- Develops, implements, and administers programs to protect property from theft, sabotage, violence, or other situations that could endanger employees or USAHS facilities.
- Reports to the USAHS Safety and Security Committee on security incidents and identifying threats.
- Manages Campus Response Team meetings and procedures to ensure consistency and follow through
- Maintains and reviews security records and periodically reports on trends, anomalies, and concerns.
- Coordinates the Campus’ emergency planning management programs in conjunction with the USAHS Safety and Security Committee.
- Inspects premises and activities to conduct a risk assessment and notifies the USAHS Safety and Security Committee of security concerns, recommend remediations and oversee the completion of approved remediations.
- Manages the installation and operation of electronic security systems, such as CCTVs, access controls, and alarms.
- Reviews and approves special events requests to ensure appropriate security coverage would be available.
- Oversees and cross-trains campus entry personnel including security and receptionist
- May perform other duties and responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time.

Positions Supervised: Campus Customer Service Coordinators (Reception), indirect oversight and coordination with Facilities management team; vendor relationships (Security provider, Safety Officers)
TECHNICAL, MANAGERIAL & PEOPLE SKILLS REQUIRED

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree required, or significant professional experience in lieu of educational requirement.
- Proven experience in public safety and/or private sector security with a minimum of seven to ten years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Past experience working with educational institutions is highly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of laws, regulations, practices, and methods relating to educational institution best safety practices is essential.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with people of all levels and backgrounds are essential.
- Strong organizational and management skills are a must.
- Extensive knowledge of, experience with physical security systems (hardware and software) a plus.
- An understanding of Title IX and the CLERY act are all highly desirable.
LICENSURE and/or CERTIFICATION
ASIS or other similar security organization certifications (e.g., CPP, PSP, LPC) are desirable.
TRAVEL
This position will require travel to the other campus locations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment but may involve exposure to moderate noise levels. Work involves operation of personal computer equipment for six to eight hours daily and includes physical demands associated with a traditional office setting, e.g., walking, standing, communicating, and other physical functions as necessary.
Compensation is a reasonable estimate and will be determined using the hiring range listed above and factors including, but not limited to, skillset, level of experience, education, and physical work location, to the extent consistent with applicable law.
